University Bridge closed to traffic after weekend fire

A fire under the University Bridge on Sunday night has caused a complete shut down as the work week resumes.

Just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, the fire department received a report of a fire at Spadina Crescent and 25th Street East, according to a news release from the City of Saskatoon.
Responding crews “identified smoke and flames coming from underneath the University Bridge.”

The initial investigation has found the fire affected sewer infrastructure.
While assessments were underway, the bridge was closed to the public and detours were in place.
The detours were affecting traffic, pedestrians and Saskatoon Transit routes, the city said.
Transit service alerts and real-time bus updates are available on third-party apps like Transit and desktop site Google Maps Transit.
