The same day Essex County OPP named 61-year-old Kevin Goodings as a suspect in a Leamington homicide investigation, officers brought him into custody.

Police arrested and charged Goodings with second degree murder on Saturday. He will remain in custody and is set to appear Sunday before the Ontario Court of Justice.

The investigation was launched after Anita Goodings, 83, was found dead last week inside a Leamington residence.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on March 12, members of the Essex County OPP and Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services responded to a well-being check at a low-rise apartment complex in the 200 block of Sherk Street.

When responders arrived, they discovered the body of a woman. A post-mortem carried out by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service later confirmed her death was the result of foul play.
